Thoughts about the NCD Survey process
Why do you like the NCD Survey process? (in part or in the whole):
I like the NCD process because it works! I like it because it's not a couple of guys with a good idea, they have proven that it works. Not once or twice, but tens of thousands of times over. There is no downside to NCD. Stick with it and do it right, and we WILL see growth. Not sure I should say this on an Army site but NCD reaches the parts that other processes cannot reach.
What do you dislike about the NCD Survey process? How could it be improved?:
Not much. Perhaps some of the wording could be more user friendly for those in our churches not used to NCD, but that apart I can't fault it.
Which aspect/s of the NCD framework have you found to be most helpful?:
3 Color Paradigm
What effect has the NCD process had on you personally?:
It has electrified me. I've seen various initiatives come and go in the Army over the years. They were all going to transform the Army and none of them did. If I'm honest, when I was first asked to get involved with NCD in our corps, I was skeptical to say the least. I agreed to give it a go though and my officer gave me a copy of Colour Your Life. I went off on holiday for a week and took it with me. I read it, then read it again, and it blew me away totally. This was diferent. This not only COULD work, it WOULD work, and had been shown to do so in tens of thousands of churches accross the world. I believe without the slightest doubt that this going to transform our corps and could well be the biggest and best thing to happen to the Army for decades, if not longer.
What biblical passage/s stand out to you in relation to NCD? Why?:
Lamentations 3:40 (NIV) - "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord."
Based on your NCD experience, what would you say to a pastor or leadership team who wants to see new life in their church?:
Get NCD into your chuch and do it now, if not sooner.
What do you believe will happen in your church as you continue on the NCD journey?:
I believe that we will grow, both in quality and in numbers. As we continue the journey so will our growth continue to increase. It is my belief that within ten years we will have seen growth to the extent where we have planted another new church in our town.
Your other comments about the NCD Survey process::
Wow!!! Many, many thanks to Christian, Christoph and the team for bringing this together, and thank you Lord for allowing the Army to see how awesome and huge this could be.
NCD Survey history
What did your church feel or look like prior to commencing the NCD process?:
A fair degree of apprehension and concern among many in our congregation. For some of us though there was a sense of excitement and anticipation. We had felt for some time that God was going to do something big in our Corps, we just didn't know what. Now, of course...we do.
What was your first survey minimum factor?:
Effective Structures What was your / your churchʼs response when you received your first NCD results?:
Hard to say really. Happy that we scored an average of almost 57, which was higher than we expected.
What has been your church's most common MAXIMUM Factor through the NCD process?:
Passionate Spirituality Why do you think that has been the case?:
First survey so no patterns established as yet
What has been your church's most common MINIMUM Factor through the NCD process?:
Effective Structures Why do you think that has been the case?:
First survey so no patterns established as yet
Other comments about your NCD Survey history::
As this was our first survey, it has been a slightly 'learn as you go' process for us. By the time we start again later this year, we will have a much clearer idea of how things work. Also, things such as this site are providing more support and resources, which will also make for a much smoother and organised process next time. Very much looking forward to our 2nd survey so that we will be able to compare and evaluate any changes in our results.
NCD Survey progress
How many NCD Surveys has your church completed?:
1 What are some of the most significant discoveries your church has made during the NCD process?:
As this is our first survey, most of our major discoveries are ahead of us yet. However, we were pleased to be starting from a relatively strong position and happy to have a maximum factor of passionate Spirituality, which scored at 65.
What kind of strategies have you applied to improve your minimum factor/s? To what extent have they been effective?:
We formed an NCD team for our corps, to look at and consider our survey results and profile plus report. From that we formulated an action plan, most of which has been implemented. The NCD team are also central in praying for the NCD process in our church
What obstacles have you encountered while increasing your church's health? How have you overcome those challenges?:
We initially met with a fair degree of concern and opposition to NCD among certain sections of our congregation. However, during the last few months we have worked hard to eleviate as many of these concerns as possible. We devoted our entire corps anniversary weekend to NCD, our officers have been teaching NCD from the platform during Sunday worship, and NCD has become more and more part of our everyday church life. This, allied to a great deal of prayer, has brought about some improvement in this area, but we still have some way to go yet.
What has been the greatest shift in the way you or your church do ministry?:
NCD is starting to become part of our culture in church, rather than something that the people driving it keep talking about. Work in progress but we intend for NCD to be the thing that everything we do in our corps is guided by
If you have experienced increased numerical growth since commencing the NCD process, what challenges has that brought about?:
Although we have seen some slight numerical growth, it is a little early to say if this has been a direct result of NCD.
Despite any progress youʼve seen, how do you feel your church could do the NCD Survey process better?:
I don't know really. I'm not sure that 'better' is the word. Next time we will have a clearer idea of what we are doing, and more and better resources to draw upon, so we can expect things to be rather more organised than this first run through has been.

Passionate Spirituality
What is your church's current MINIMUM Factor?:
Effective Structures What comments have emerged regarding your current maximum and minimum factors?:
We were pleasantly surprised with our maximum factor, but not really surprised to see effective structures as our minimum. Having a minimum factor score of 42 was something we felt to be a good starting point, although our min max difference of 23 does give us some cause for concern.
